Common Problems with Your Kitchen Sink

The sink is one of the most important parts of any kitchen. It’s something we all just expect to walk in and have work regardless of the day or time. We can end up feeling rather lost and unsure of what to do when we encounter sudden problems with the kitchen sink. It’s simply just not something that many of us think of on a daily basis.

The kitchen sink is one thing that most of us won’t need to replace more than once or twice during the life of our homes. But how do we know when it needs replaced?

Before you go out and purchase an entirely new kitchen sink setup, you want to make sure that it’s not just an easily fixable problem. Unless you’re remodeling or planning on getting a new sink, this can be a very costly project. Many people experience a certain amount of intimidation when it comes to Plumbing. It’s just not a maintenance project that many of us have to deal with during the lives of our homes.

It’s important to know when to call a professional and when to open up the cabinet and take a shot at it yourself. Whether you’re dealing with stainless steel or bar sinks, any of these common problems can cause you some serious headaches:

Clogged Drains

This is one of the most common problems with any drain. This is particularly Troublesome with kitchen sinks due to the buildup of food and debris that can cause both foul smells and attract bugs. There are few different tactics you can use when trying to unclog drains. You need to try first to reach down and see if you can feel the obstruction. Sometimes it’s just a matter of grabbing onto the leftover food or debris and pulling it out.

If this doesn’t work, you can try a chemical product that’s designed to dissolve the blockage. These can work very well under some circumstances, but they don’t always get everything out. This is what it can become prudent to use a plunger and simply to pull the clog up yourself. If all else fails, you may have to call in a plumber.

Clogged Faucets

If the water flowing from your faucet has slowed to a trickle, then you may be having a problem with a clogged faucet. This is something that many of us Overlook or simply don’t understand how to check. In order to determine whether or not your faucet is clogged, you need to unscrew the very end of it and pull out the strainer to see if there’s something in the way. Clogs can happen in areas with very hard water or when you’re turning a sink on after a very long period of time and there’s buildup in the pipes. Always check the obvious before calling in a professional.

Leaking Underneath

This can be a product of a leaking drain basket. This is simply the area directly underneath your drain where the water is supposed to flow into the plumbing. There can be a bad connection here, or it simply wasn’t sealed properly. This isn’t a difficult or expensive part to replace and it doesn’t hurt to just take care of tha

Leaking from the Faucet

This can have to do with the water flow. You’ll want to check the handle to make sure that the water isn’t being left on to some extent. It’s important to make sure that these can be tightened all the way, and that it’s not an issue with the other parts of the sink.
